School Magnet Programs Catalog (published in English and Spanish)

Background

Yonkers Public Schools is the fourth largest district in New York State. The district has been operating under a magnet school configuration since the mid 80’s. Every year a catalog is published in English and Spanish to describe the unique programs offered in each of its forty-two schools.

Solution

The underlying message in this year’s catalog design was school uniforms. The Yonkers Public Schools has implemented a uniform policy for the past five years. In today’s society we are surrounded by television and print advertisements that focus on the latest fashion trends. Therefore, it’s not easy for an urban public school district to enforce a uniform dress code. In this catalog I worked closely with the photographer to capture students in uniforms. It is the district’s hope that by showing all the students in this catalog in uniform, it will inspire others to follow suit.
