Background

As with any newsletter, the main concern is to develop a design concept that will make the reader want to continue reading beyond the cover. The intention here was to make the pages visually more stimulating while attempting to limit large bodies of text. You can see how this project has evolved over a ten year period.

Solution

In the first re-design, I went from a finished letter size to a finished legal size format. The masthead was developed with multiple levels of shading to create a greater visual impact. More photos were used throughout the newsletter. With a need to fit more information into the quarterly publication, I moved up to tabloid size. In doing so, I felt it was time to tone down the masthead. The new masthead incorporated the Yonkers Public Schools' brand bookmark screened behind the word VIEWPOINT. The new format gives the designer more creative freedom with the layout.
